Kurt Kapels, MD

Clinical Director
Dr. Kurt Kapels is the Hospitalist Clinical Director for Columbus Community Hospital. He is a Columbus native and graduate of Lakeview High School. Dr. Kapels completed his undergraduate education at Nebraska Wesleyan, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. He received his medical degree from UNMC where he also completed his Internal Medicine Residency. Prior to joining the Hospitalist Program, Dr. Kapels participated in a research project on TIPS procedure in hepatorenal syndrome at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in the Department of Nephrology. Dr. Kapels is a member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians.

Scott Cameron, MD
Hospitalist
Dr. Cameron is a Nebraska native, completing his undergraduate education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received his medical degree from UNMC where he also completed his Internal Medicine Residency. Prior to joining the Hospitalist Program, Dr. Cameron participated as a Student Technician in several research projects at the UNMC. Dr. Cameron is a member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians.

Alicia Mizner, MD
Hospitalist

Dr. Alicia Mizner graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where she also completed her primary clinical rotations and residency.

During her education, Dr. Mizner was a student provider with the UNMC Sharing Clinic Continuity Program, providing care to an underserved population. She is board-certified in Hospitalist Medicine.


Brian J. Bossard, MD, FACP, FHM
Medical Director

Dr. Brian Bossard received his BS in Biology from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and completed his medical training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center where he also completed his internal medicine residency training. He is board certified in internal medicine. Dr. Bossard established his practice in Lincoln where he served as cofounder, President and Managing Partner of Lincoln Internal Medicine Associates. Dr. Bossard established the first hospital medicine practice in Nebraska in 1993 before founding Inpatient Physician Associates at Bryan Health in Lincoln, NE in 2001. He subsequently founded hospital medicine practices at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE in 2008, and at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus NE, in 2010. Dr. Bossard is cofounder of Teledigm Health, and founder of Teledigm Physician Services, where he currently serves as President and CEO. Dr. Bossard also is cofounder of Bryan Telemedicine where he currently serves as President and CEO. Dr. Bossard has served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine and also as Chief of Staff at Bryan Health, where he served for many years as the medical staff quality designee. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Lancaster County Medical Society as well as on the Board of Directors of Bryan Medical Center. Dr. Bossard also served as a charter member of the physician editorial advisory panel for the Society of Hospital Medicine publication, “The Hospitalist,” as well as serving as adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He and his wife Monica have 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren.
